For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand. Ps. 95:7
Sheep are the only animals that need a shepherd for outside care. They would wander off, fall off a cliff, or starve to death if it weren't for a shepherd. The Lord calls us His sheep because, in the same way, we need Him to protect us, guide us, and to provide for our needs. Sometimes a shepherd will carry a helpless lamb in His arms, and a wonderful thing happens during that bonding process-the lamb finds security and learns to trust his shepherd. When the lamb begins to walk, he will never stray away from the shepherd's side again. Are you a wandering sheep? God as your Shepherd will coax you back into the flock time and again, and He will hold you close to encourage you to stay with Him.
See for yourself:
Ps. 100:3, Is. 53:6, John 10:1-16
Isn't it so amazing how He loves us?
